Home Stuff VL2002 Hopper Mod

VL 2002

Although this in shown on a Blazer, it can be made to work with just about any paintball gun.

Originaly writen by Phil Dorfer and posted on the POG Forum on September 25, 1998 at 16:48:46.

Myself (Phil Dorfer), Alex Omand, and two of our friends derived this concept last year. It seems that due to the extreme weather that we play in (Northern Vermont) our infra red sensors got damaged some what, making the View Loader next to useless.

Sitting around with three broken VL 2000s, the only way they would work was to manually flip the switch on and off. This tends to be a pain in the butt. We were reading an article on the Angel's VL 2001 and how it worked. We then came up with the idea to do that with our guns.

Here is how you perform the mod.

  1. Take apart the VL and the cap to the cervo.
  2. Cut the 4 wires from the circuit board and put the board aside.
  3. Go to RadioShack and pick up the following parts: Microswitch (there are many versions of microswitches that can be used), 1/16 inch headphone jack, male fitting and female fitting, red wire, white wire (these colors are used to keep consistent).
  4. Solder the black wire to the blue wire from the cervo.
  5. Place the female headphone jack in the existing hole where the old switch was. This may require some shaving of plastic.
  6. Solder the red wire and the white wire to the female jack.
  7. Find a strategic place for the microswitch behind the trigger so that when you pull the trigger it will depress the microswitch. Solder two wires to the microswitch, one white, one red. Make sure there is enough to run to the VL.
  8. Solder the two new wires to the male headphone jack.

Now you are ready to test it out. Plug in the headphone jack and press the trigger. If the VL agitates you're good to go. If not check all the connections. This mod makes it so that every time you pull the trigger the Vl agitates. You no longer hear the constant whining of your Vl. So far I have not had any problems with misfeeding balls. In fact, it works better than the original. Like any new idea it has some flaws.

  1. Due to not hearing the whining noise, you need to pay closer attention to your hopper.
  2. If you use a straight headphone connector it may break. This can be fixed by finding a 90 deg. jack.

So far we have done this mod for Autocockers, Spyders, and Blazers. IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE BLAZER IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. Rather than spending $90 on a Revolution, I spent 5 bucks on RadioShack parts.

Good luck with the mod.
